Rounding profile in sales order concept is rarely used. While discussing with my colleague about his issue, I had suggested SAP’s rounding profile capability in sales order. The issue which he had described was handled by Rounding profile in sales order.
Scenario:- Customer gives an order for material in decimals (e.g. 6.7 Kg), such ordered quantity cannot be delivered to the customers. So business requirement is to Round up the ordered quantity in sales order to next whole number (e,g, 7 Kg)

Rounding profiles can be maintained on a general or plant-specific basis. General maintenance is recommended as this requires you to enter less data.
1. Static Rounding Profile:
A Static rounding profile is the most simple and straightforward. You establish one or more sets of Threshold Values and Rounding Values. Once your order meets the Threshold Value, SAP will automatically round up to the Rounding Value.
The threshold value is the value from which the system rounds up to the next delivery quantity.
The rounding value is the value to which the system rounds up as soon as the threshold value has been reached
No logistics units of measure are taken into account with static rounding profiles. This means that the system rounds up statically to the rounding values entered in the profile
Several combinations of threshold and rounding values can be defined for rounding profiles
1) ‘Rounding permitted’ to be checked in item category
2) Assign Rounding Profile in Material Master
Now, Let’s create sales order and check the Sales order quantity
Create sales order with sales order quantity in Decimals
Press ‘Enter’ and system will give pop-up message which will show rounded sales order quantity and rounding profile used
Now, Ordered Quantity is rounded up to next whole number
In this way Static Rounding profile works.
Now, Let’s Discuss about Dynamic Rounding profile
2. Dynamic Rounding Profile
Dynamic rounding profile gives different features. Rounding Rules plays very important role in Dynamic rounding profile. Dynamic rounding profile is calculated based on percentage.
Unit of Measure Rounding Rule:- Here, System gives you flexibility to define your own Rounding up and Rounding Down rules.
Here, I have defined my own Rule.
The fields, %Up or %Down, indicate the percentages from which the system is to automatically round up or down to a complete logistics unit.
You have to define an additional rounding rule if you want your profile to round off to whole logistics units. This rounding rule is the key used for grouping logistics units of measure. The group contains all the units to which the system can round off when using the profile.
You can also have the system include only those logistics units that are allowed for the vendor or recipient. Allowed units of measure are defined in unit of measure groups that can be used at material-vendor level or at material-plant level.
You maintain a dynamic rounding profile using the rounding method “round to whole logistics units” and assign the profile rounding rule 01.
A material has a base unit of measure of 1 piece. Purchases are made in Cartons (1 Carton = 30 pieces) or pallets (1 pallet = 30 Cartons or 900 pieces). The system then rounds an order quantity of 850 pieces to 1 Pallet (= 900 pieces (850 PCs + 50 PCs)) because the pallet is already 90 % full.
Here, SAP has given options for customer to use their own Rounding methods.
Now, let’s check unit of conversion in material master
Now. let’s try yo create sales order. Here order quantity is 850 PCs which is more than 90% of Pallet capacity. 90% is defined in Rounding Rule 01. Expectations are, system should round up the quantity to 1 PAL (= 900 PCs)
in Pop-Up message, system showing rounded up quantity to 1 PAL (=900 PCs). Similarly, System will round down quantity if ordered quantity is <20% of pallet capacity.
3. Quantity to be Added/ Subtracted
Third Rounding profile is Quantity to be added or Subtracted. This is very straight forward. System will add or Subtract sales order quantity based on threshold quantity and % to be added or subtracted defined in rounding profile
